T40 CPU replacement process question
T40 CPU replacement process question
I am looking to upgrade my CPU (1.6 to 2.0) and will also be swapping mobo's which is not where my question is going.
I have bought a 2GHz Pentium M 755 off eBay and want to test it with my current flaky mobo, assuming I can boot into BIOS and/or windows to confirm the CPU at least powers up.
My question:
Looking at the HMM it lists removing the LCD assy as the preceding step before removing the fan when replacing the CPU. But to remove the fan assy it does not list the step to remove the LCD assy.
looking at the laptop I don't see why it would be necessary to even mess with the LCD when pulling the CPU vs just the fan.
Am I missing something?

Re: T40 CPU replacement process question
All you need to remove (apart from keyboard etc) is just the fan. LCD can very well stay in place.
I wish you wouldn't have bought that 755...you'll understand why soon enough...

Re: T40 CPU replacement process question
Hey George,
It was part of a package of CPUs - got a good deal so I can always put it back on eBay.
I assume you are hinting at heat, will this be an issue even with the M10 fan you are sending me?
If it runs hot I can always set my coffee cup over the Q instead of that silly USB mug warmer!
I thought is was odd that the HMM would say remove the LCD...

No, it's something completely different as Monty Pythons would say, that I was hinting at...you'll see...

+1 for your reaction (I dunno what they're talking about BTW!).
Also update the bios to the latest version so the T40 recognises the new chip.
