Xp start menu and pull downs

#1 Post by burns334 » Tue Feb 23, 2010 6:37 pm

On some machines, in the start menu, I see pull down arrows/carrots next to some items, "my recent documents" and "connect to" have them but control panel does not. I swear I have seen it on other machines. Can they be added somehow?

Control Panel->Appearance and Themes->Taskbar and Start Menu->Start menu Tab->Customize->Advanced Tab. Under “Control Panel” select “Display as a menu”.

A very useful MS add-on is Tweak UI for XP which lets you set numerous options.

Be careful if you install "Tweak UI". There's a good reason Microsoft doesn't support it: some of the changes it makes cannot be easily reversed, even if you un-install it. I'd recommend a complete hard drive image before installing it. (Well, actually I'd recommend steering clear of it entirely.)
