Where is a good place to get new motherboards for T42p

#1 Post by CyberDog » Thu Feb 25, 2010 7:26 pm

Hello All,

I have a T42p (2373-Q1U) that I plugged an iPod Shuffle into and it shut down right away. The computer is completely dead now. No lights come on when I try and power it up. I tried removing the battery and AC power and holding down the power button for a minute and then plugging power back to it but still nothing. I suspect something was fried on the motherboard.

I'd like to save the computer since it is a nice unit with the 15" screen, hi-res graphics, etc. so I'm willing to try and replace the motherboard. I've read through the HMM and have torn about half of the computer down so far. Can anyone recommend a good place to source replacement motherboards from? I'd like to try and stay with the same type of board but if that is not practical I'd be open to other boards that would be compatible. The notebook does have the finger print reader and blue-tooth.

Any recommendations on places to get a board is much appreciated! I'm also interested in hearing others stories and experiences of taking on such an endeavour.

Thank you,
Bill

Hi Bill

Before buying a new board, maybe it would be worth checking for blown fuses on the motherboard if you have access to a multimeter.

This document shows the fuse locations.

Regarding a replacement board I'd check this forum's Market Place and also put on a Want To Buy (WTB).

Ok, sounds like it would be worth while checking the fuses first. I'll do that and then see what my next steps are.

Hi Nick,

I pulled the board out of my laptop and have gone through all the fuses with my multimeter and they all seem to be ok, if I'm checking them correctly. Do you simply use continuity mode and put the ends of the probe on either end of the fuse and see if a connection is made. My multimeter will beep if the circuit can be made.

I'm not sure what else I should check or if this point I should spring for a new board. Brad from this board has contacted me that he has a replacement board if I want it.

You can't go wrong with a board from Brad if you choose to swap it...

That's right Bill. Sounds like a component fault and a swap out's a good idea.
