T41 wireless

#1 Post by jcnj6 » Sat Feb 27, 2010 9:10 pm

I had a t41 2373 7FU die. I purchased a motherboard on ebay 2373 7CU. It seems to work ok but wireless connection keeps disconnecting ever 2 minutes and then reconnecting. PRO/wireless lan 2100 3b. I did an uninstall and downloaded and installed new drivers. So, . . . wrong motherbboard, lan card, settings, bad idea ? ? ? thanks, Rich

Try and let Windows manage your wifi.
Also, get a better wifi card, e.g. Intel 2200BG.

windows is in control. The card worked fine in the other computer. A better card would improve speed but will it correct the problem?

The -7CU is a wireless upgradable version, while the -7FU came with a wifi card.
Check the settings in your BIOS, it may not be properly enabled.
Also, try both Intel and IBM/Lenovo drivers and see which one gives you better results (my bet is on Intel).

Im not sure how to check the bios. I go into the F1 start up but I do not see how to properly enable it. I have a spare intel 802.1 b/g card but when I install it I get the error message unauthorized card installed, power off and remove.

I don't have a T4x handy at the moment, so can't tell you the bIOS settings.
But the 1802 error can be easily remedied.
If you have a floppy drive, make a self-booting floppy and copy this no-1802 program on it: http://jcnp.pku.edu.cn/~shadow/1802/no-1802.com
Remove the b/g card, then boot the laptop from that floppy, and doubleclick on no-1802.com
Switch off, reinstall the wifi card, and boot into Windows. Install the driver.

Without a floppy drive, burn a CD from this download: http://rapidshare.com/files/145019337/wifi_v2.zip.html
It's a zip-file. Unpack it and burn the .iso file, see this: http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm
Remove the b/g card, then boot the laptop from that CD. Only run the no-1802 program.
Switch off, reinstall the wifi card, and boot into Windows. Install the driver.
