Choosing from a currently manufactured drive - 320GB IDE (ATA6).

Hummmm... I just plugged in a Samsung HM160HC 160Gb IDE drive and windows 7 installation would not see the drive.

Can you see the drive in the BIOS? Also make sure you installed the drive correctly - the label should face down when it goes into the hard drive bay.

Now tried a Western Digital WD800BEVE 80GB drive and that does not seem to be recognised either. I have two T42's and they both the latest v3.23 (1RERDRWW) BIOS.

Does anyone know of a later beta BIOS that would support larger drives?

Am I limited to 60Gb Max?

Many Thanks

What option do I select to see the drive in the BIOS, as I looked for this?

Thanks

You can try to go into 'Startup' on my main BIOS screen and you should see the option of choosing your boot sequence with the list of available devices.

Hi Mark,
I am sure there are a lot smarter people here but I can tell you I had a simular thing happen to me on a T43. The thing worked and when I tried to plug in a different drive it wouldn't. I was lucky enough to have another drive caddy and after pulling my hair out over the problem thought I would try it. The different caddy worked. I looked at the the one that didn't. It was bent ever so slightly on the end where the connection was made. I had to bend it away from the conection. Maybe 1 mm. I striaghten it out and then it too worked. I wouldn't think it would have been that picky. It didnt look like it would interfear, but i guess it did. Might be worth a try.

Good Luck

The largest / fastest internal hard drive would be the:

Seagate Momentus 7200.1 ST910021A 100GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive

This is currently what I am using in my T42p and I love it!

BTW if you are looking for one, they usually go for around $300.00 online due to how rare they are now. I do have a spare in case anybody is interested.

Bit behind the time!
Largest IDE HD for laptops currently is 320GB and has been for a while!

Yes but that's not 7200RPM which is a must for the software I use.

Seagates are fine drives, dime a dozen on feebay if you're willing to pony up $100-120 for a sealed one.

Yes, I am talking about 100/7200.

Even Hitachis with the FRU that will work in T43/p with no "2010 error" don't break the $150 mark.

The days of PATA drives are gone. Start buying SATA ultrabay adaptors if you're intent on using these machines for a few more years...

A little off topic here, but do anyone knows the maximum drive for a T43 without the 2010 error?

Fujitsu MHV2120AH, which is 120GB/5400rpm.
