Touchpad

#1 Post by eLinux » Fri Feb 25, 2005 12:20 pm

Has anyone replaced the Touchpad on a t4x series laptop?

Mine is acting a bit strange...I just bought a new keyboard replacement (the old one is losing its IBM touch ;) I've used it too much), and I figured I might as well swap them both out at the same time. I'm a bit nervous about changing the Touchpad, though, since I have to replace the entire handrest bezel. I looked at the maintenance manual, and I'm sure I can do it, but I'm wondering if it's really as difficult as it may seem in the manu.

Any help appreciated. :)

Not too bad .. I don't remember the exact count of screws but it takes about 15 minutes being careful. The 14.1 models are easier to do than the 15.0, but overall this will be a breeze. Don't forget a sharp knife or razor blade to remove the screw covers on the front so as not to damage or lose them.

Thanks for the reply... I'm very weary of doing this, as changing a keyboard is much much easier than changing the whole touchpad.

I'm almost willing to live with the probelm as to not mess anything up.

I do appreciate your response, MobileGuru... Do you know if IBM has a video, similar to the one for removing the keyboard, which gives instructions on how to remove the palm rest? That would be extremely helpful.

Thanks again :)

If IBM says that palmrest/touchpad replacement/removal are not customer serviceable parts (which they do), why do they have a video showing how to do it???

Probably for the same reason that info from tabook and from the web site often don't match. The right hand knoweth now what the left hand is doing. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Cool!

Thanks a bunch...I looked around for the video but could not find it. I think that will greatly assist me when changing the palmrest out.

I great appreciate everyone's help. :)
