X300 T43s are out

Intel® Pentium® M Processor 750 1.86GHz
14.1"
1024x768
64MB ATI Mobility RADEON x300
4.7-5.14

IBM Web Price is $2,299.00*
Ship time is within 2-4 weeks**

How would this compare (performance wise) to the 9600 based models?

According to some sources, the 3d performance of X300 is about the same as the Radeon 9000. Yes, 9000, not 9600.

The performance of an RV350 derived core will depend mainly on 3 factors:
(1) Core/Memory speed
(2) Amount of memory
(3) Width of interface between core and memory (64-bit or 128 bit?)

All things being equal, the X300 will have equal performance to the 9600. However, versions of the X300 with 64-bit interface (X300SE) will have severely degraded performance.

How does the 64MB ATI Mobility RADEON x300 compare to the old 32MB RADEON 7500 chip?

Is the x300 more suitable for vast 3D (gaming) environments for example?

Just want an idea how well this chip performs........ :)

The X300 should easily destroy the 7500.

The X300 has 4 pixel pipelines and DX9 in hardware, while the 7500 has 2 pixel pipelines and DX7 in hardware.

I've got a Radeon 9600 in my desktop that gets about 9000 in 3DMark01 and 2500 in 3DMark03. The Radeon 7500 in my T40 gets between 3800 and 4100 depending on the driver revision. Processors in each system (1.3 GHz PM and 1.83 GHz Athlon) are about equal in performance.

i looked at tomshardware.com at their vga charts and i calculated(cos they dont have the 2 cards in one chart) that the x300 should be about 75% faster than the 9600....am i wrong somehow ? but why should the x300 be equal to the 9600 ? wouldnt make sense or ?

and there are t43 with x300 AND a 1400x1050 res., right ?

Yes, there are, lots of them. Download tabook.pdf, you will see. These models are not listed on main IBM website yet but they already listed them in Education site.

You have to call ibm to order.
Actually, i just called them to place my T43 order. It's 2668-92u (15" SXGA+ 64mb x300) :D

I could not find any T43 models on the education site. I only see 3 non-customizable T43 models on the regulard ibm site. Could you post the link to the education site where they list the models and prices or were you just referring to the tadbook.

Thanks.

I agree with K. Eng. Since the X300 is based off the 9600 core, the performance should be about the same provided that the core and memory speeds are similar.

Although, some actual benchmarks would be really nice so I can see for myself how well the X300 performs.

Hi,

I posted this link before in another thread.

http://www.rojakpot.com/showarticle.asp ... 172&pgno=4

It compares 4 notebooks, one of which has the x300. They're not Thinkpads and I know the specs differ across the 4 machines but there are some test results that someone may be able to interpret. It is the only review I've seen where the x300 is tested.

Cheers,
Rob.

Here's the link (California Education Site)
http://www-1.ibm.com/gold/portal/servle ... ge=Welcome
- Click "Online PC Store"
- In the new pop up window, use search field on the top, search for "T43" or "T43p" if you want to see T43P
If you only see just a few T43 in the list, try change the drop down "Show Only" to "All products"

I've tried all the Education sites for each states, Ohio seems to have the best discount (about 30-35% off, while CA only give 15% off)

What's your expected shipped date?
Mine was 3/18 when i first place the order. It changed to 3/21 a day later and now it's "call".

I am planning for a T43p, the higher education price is REALLY GOOD. But who can buy at this price?

depends which "higher education" price you mean.... the deeper discounts are for current full time students..... less deep discounts are available for qualifying alumni.....

Great, I am a full time graduate student. So do you have to present some proof to be able to purchase? What is the procedure? Thanks.

Somebody know how it works in USA?

I followed kanate's way, and it doesn't ask me anything except for the credit card information. I didn't provide my credit card information though, since I am not in a hurry.

Somebody did this in USA can answer my question?

this has been discussed many times before (the search button is your friend :-))..... they usually don't as for proof, but do random verifications.. since you are a full time student, order and don't worry....

Please put location and other relevant information in your profile. Welcome to our Forum!

That actually sucks compared to my desktop's Radeon 9600 (gets 2500 or so on a 1.83 GHz Barton Athlon).

What resolution did the test run at? I've got the free version of 3DMark03 so I'm limited to 1024x768 test resolution even though my display is 1280x1024.

If the test is running at 1400x1050 the score is not bad. If the test is running at 1024x768 it's not such a good score.

My desktop gets about 9k in 3DMark2001SE and my T40 gets between 3800 and 4100 depending on the driver revision.
