CD drive opens randomly

This drive is in a T43 2668 83U and seems to work normally when a CD is in the drive, playing or burning but the machine will be sitting idle or anytime and the draw will just open. I moved the drive to another machine and it does not pop open there. Any idea what's up with first machine?

Sounds a real pain.

A few ideas after a search:

Apparently there was a virus around a few years ago and one of its symptoms was this. Run free version of Malwarebytes
You may also want to consider a heavy weight antivirus program like Eset Nod32 which is available on a 30 full feature trial.

There's been a prank program going around which makes this happen.
Maybe worth checking if it's on your machine?

In addition to what Poshgeordie said, run a Linux Live CD and see if the behavior still occurs. If it does not, then you have a Windows/Virus/Malware issue.

Actually it's not that much of a pain, the drive just seems to open when not in use and I just reclose for another hour. I swapped the drive with another machine ( 1 for 1) and both seem to work normally now. I think I will leave well enough alone for now

I had this issue with my own T43p 2668 and it turned out to be a faulty CD drive. I replaced mine and it never happen again.

This happened with my T41's drive too, I had to replace the drive to solve the problem.
