Wakeup from Stand By with Closed Lid

#1 Post by stix » Fri Feb 25, 2005 5:39 pm

I want to have my T41 in a cupboard while I'm at home and work with external KB, Mouse and LCD. With my Microsoft KB or via 'Start->Shutdown Computer->Stand By it is possible to suspend the Thinkpad without opening the lid. Is there a way to wake it up from suspend with closed lid? On my Desktop I have a BIOS option to resume on a keyboard stroke or mouse motion but I didn't find a similar option in the TP BIOS settings.
Many thanks for any hints,
Stix

This has been discussed and I think the only resolution was to use a port replicator. The $149(MSRP) dock from IBM has a power button that will wake it up.

or you could use Wake On Lan from your desktop computer.

go to www.depicus.com and download their nice free tool (WOL for Windows) on your desktop pc. On your Thinkpad go to Hardware Devices -> Network Adapter ->Intel Pro/1000 MT -> Energie Management and activate Wake on lan.

Shutdown your Thinkpad (not standby) and try to wake it up with the tool. Of course this works only wired, not with wireless network access.

Let us know how well that works, please!

Keep an eye on the temperature in the cupboard, if it's warming up in there, that's bad.
