T43 shows both wired and wireless connected...

#1 Post by micl9 » Sun Mar 07, 2010 6:05 pm

... which one is being used?

I finally got around to hooking up my wired network in my house. As my Modem/router is a less than ideal but free (Westell 327W) and the wireless locks up from time to time I figured I would hook up my wife's T43 to the wired network when docked (Type 2878) to get a more stable connection.
Both connections show connected and everything works fine. But I would like to be sure it is using the wired connection over the wireless. I noticed there is no way to create a docked profile and have read lots of posts on this topic, but that's not my question.

As both network connections show active:
1) which is actually being used?
2) will having them both on cause any problems, ie break anything?

Hardware is
Product: ThinkPad T43 1871-W7Q
Operating system: XP Pro Sp3

Original description: Based on 1871-CTO:
P M 750(1.86GHz)
1GB RAM ...now 2
Wireless upgradeable(MPCI) ...now Intel PRO/Wireless 2200bg
Modem(CDC) ...now BMDC-2
1Gb Ethernet(LOM) - Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet

I know I can toggle off wireless with Fn +F5, but do you really think my wife actually going to follow my instructions?

Access Connections pops up and asked about creating another profile, but at the bottom of the window it says that Ethernet is not included. :?
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
Mike

I should not matter, and if on connection goes down, you should be able to pickup right away where you started.

Well I should have done this before I posted

Brought up status window for each connection and then opened browser.

No traffic on the wireless connection, only on the wired.

Thanks for the comments guys.
