T43 problem - unknow device

#1 Post by bandita » Sun Mar 07, 2010 6:54 pm

hi, I`m new here.
I have Thinkpad T43, type 1871. On device manager I have one unknown device.
I am already instaled all drivers and all is looking good.

Could me someone tell what is it? Which driver I need? In USB ports is nothing.
OS is Win 7.

thanks a lot

Welcome to the forum.

Try running a windows update, it may the the infared connection, and in my experience, it should find a driver automatically online.

Good luck

Try choosing to upgrade the driver automatically. (if you need help to do this, post back). On my T41, I jut installed windows 7, and it found the infared driver online right away, with no other problems.

I am almost certain that it is the infared driver.

If not, at one point I had the driver somewhere.

Good luck

Can you get us a screen shot of the device manager, but this time in the VIEW menu select "Devices By Connection".

Also, what type to T43 is it, look at bottom of case for the black & white bar-code. For Example mine says: "Type: 8932-A37". This will let us know specifically what configuration yours is it when it left factory.
ThinkPad R61i (8932-A37) Changes: 2.6GHz T7800, Win7 Ultimate 32-bit, 320GB
ThinkPad T41p (2373-8RU) Recovered from salt-water damage
ThinkPad T41 (2379-DJU) Recovered from soda damage
Gateway MT3707 Changes: Core Duo, 2GB DDR

screen shot "Devices By Connection"

http://picasaweb.google.com/makatch/Dro ... 8886577394

and on the bottom of case on the black & white bar-code is Type 1871-CTO S/N xxxxxxxx, product ID: 1871W1K

If I open unknown device by doubleclick, on Location is "on Intel(R) 82801FBM LPC Interface Controller - 2641"

If I choose update driver they tell me " Windows was unable to instal your Unknown device, could not find driver software for your device"

thanks

MOD EDIT: Removed your serial number from your post, for your protection. -tff

Found on the web:
First go into your device manager and find the yellow exclamination point. Double click to reinstall the driver.

When windows asks to connect to the internet to search say "not this time"

Click next

When the wizard appears to install, select "install from a list or specfic location" (Advanced)

Click next

The hardware wizard will ask to search, click "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install"

Click next

The next window should say "Show all devices", this is what you want.

Click next

Now there should be a HUGE list of devices to choose from. This is where you will want to find the "Intel" stuff.

Look for exact name of the missing driver.

Intel(R) <---- don't forget the (R), there is "INTEL" and "INTEL (R)"

Then find 8201FBM LPC...

And lastly find the interfact controller 2641, this may take more time but it's there. There are many different interface controllers similar to the 2641 so make sure you get the right one. For instance there is an 24CC controller so be careful choosing the right driver.

So make sure you install:

Intel(R) 82801FBM LPC Interface Controller - 2641

Click "next" and continue installing the driver.

If windows asks you if you're sure you want to install, click yes.

You should now have fixed the problem

Unless it's related to this same problem, it's better to start a new thread.
But do a search first on the T4x forum, perhaps the solution is there already.

Hi, welcome to the forum! I would recommend a new thread, since your missing driver is a little different.

Now for the safe of argument, have you installed and used "System Update"?
