Power inverter or backlight?

#1 Post by bass1175 » Mon Mar 08, 2010 5:53 am

Screen dies out after 5 minutes of use, sometimes giving pinkish purple colors. Is this a power inverter or a back-light issue and what tests I can conduct to do a little process of elimination.

Thanks in advance

Any 14" LCD from a T4X series would fit, but you have to match inverters and LCD ribbon cables to the LCD. In other words, the parts numbers for the inverters and LCD ribbon cables for an XGA vs. SXGA+ LCD are different. The best bet is to get an entire LCD assembly with covers and cables intact. Also, if you have an Intel GPU, an SXGA+ LCD may not work. Pink or red-ish colors mean a defective CCFL.

I've got several complete LCD assemblies for a 14" T4x units, both XGA and SXGA+, PM if interested.

Thank you both for your support. so is it fair to assume that if Im installing ATI drivers then it can take xga and sxga and can upgrade to sxga if the laptop has a xga. Also how can one test to see if they have xga or sxga.

Thanks again

Yes that is a safe assumption. If the default resolution for the LCD is 1024x768, it is XGA, and 1400x1050 is SXGA+. Check Display properties in Windows.

Just a quick correction - inverters for T40/T41/T42 14" share the same FRU, so I assume they're the same thing. True, true, there are some minor differences between inverters, but I think that it's just a matter of which components Lenovo/IBM used at the time - as I said, according to HMM, all of the above share the same FRU.
