Well, it has _only_ taken two months, but IBM sent me an email yesterday informing me that my new motherboard is at the service depot. Now I must point out that the email was not from the service personnel, but rather from the GM of IBM Bahamas whom I escalated the problem to. The service center was rather surprised when I showed up this morning with my dead plastic brick, since they hadn't contacted me. The unit should be repaired and ready for pick up tomorrow at 3PM. Time will tell....

We're all waiting to hear the outcome and I'll be the first to offer to come test drive it!

Interesting jparr's experience seems to mirror mine - nothing seemed to be happening with IBM reporting that the system board was still on back order. Eventually I got fed up of being told this and contacted Customer Marketing/Customer Service - they were appalled by the level of service I'd received and 48 hours after receiving my complaint my laptop was back with me repaired.

The subject says it all. I picked up my T42 today after they replaced the motherboard, and now the right palm rest creaks, and the laptop makes a buzzing noise anytime the screen updates. If I open notepad, or any other window is displayed, and drag it around the screen, the laptop makes a buzzing or whining sound. It is very annoying, in my office with AC going and three servers. Will probably be terrible when I get it home in a silent house. Also, there is now a hair that seems to be _IN_ the lcd screen. It sits right over the Windows taskbar in the center of the bottom edge.

All in all a simply horrible experience. Anyone wanna buy a 2378FVU? Dude, I think im getting a Dell. ;-D
