A strange dead(stuck) pixel or not?

#1 Post by lzy_tek » Sat Feb 26, 2005 10:26 am

I found a dead/stuck pixel or not. The pixel color varied after I overlayed it with different solid colors through PC-DOCTOR.

If I moved a window over it, the dead pixel's color wouldn't change. But one strange thing is that if I hover the cursor over it, the color did change to the cursor's.

More to my fear, after I restarted my T42, it's GONE :?::!:

I am quite sure that the machine was running for a long time( 2 days? ) without restart/shutdown. Maybe it's a bad pixel in runtime video buffer?

Try pressing the middle ultranav button to fix this dead pixel. Most likely, you've run into the common ultranav software bug, which puts a "fake" dead pixel on-screen. It goes away when you 1) scroll the screen using trackpad edge motion, or 2) click the middle ultranav button when that button is set to "scroll" or "magnify."

Also, if you mouse over it just right, it changes the cursor to the scroll cursor.

It's a temporary pixel that shows up randomly and occasionally, and since it' software, goes away on reboot.

Last note - depending on the nature of the error, "true" dead pixels can be on all the time, off on the time, stuck on a certain color all the time, or only show up as dead on certain colors. Since each pixel is made up of three separate subpixel elements (red green blue), any one of these subpixels being stuck "on" or "off" may change how the error manifests.

I have same issue on my new T60.
Serval times a day. Now i can press the middle button to make the pixel go away!

Wondering when the bug can be fixed.

I am not sure, but I believe this is a problem that occurs when you have both the TouchPad and TrackPoint active. If you disable one or the other, I believe the problem goes away. You can disable them in ThinkPad Configuration or in the UltraNav Wizard. Using the UltraNav Wizard is probably the better method.

I only use the TrackPoint myself, so I have the TouchPad disabled. I do not see this "bug" on my system.

I noticed that, for me, it happens when I scroll with the TouchPad but manage to stop scrolling with the cursor as the scrollbar and move it away (without scrolling again), the spot that it left off on will have this problem. Weird.

I had the same problem last night. I just found 1 pixel that did the same as you described. I just kept changing the background in PC doctor from black to red to white to blue. did the entire cycle once and it was gone. I also rubbed it gently with a soft cloth before i started. dont know if that added to fixing the problem. but now the stuck pixel is gone and is working like before.

If it's the same problem all you have to do to get rid of it is click the scroll button above the touchpad and they should all go away.

Waking up sleeping thread.. 8)

I almost send back my LG monitor when I saw 1 white stuck pixel. Then I saw that also in my T40 LCD as well. Strangely, this thing happens only after I use external monitor (using DVI)...
