Installing 1400x1050 t41 SXGA into T42 Possible?

#1 Post by fefrie » Thu Mar 18, 2010 6:40 pm

I have an opportunity to get a t41 with a probable GPU issue. The t41 has a 1400x1050 screen. Is it possible to put it into the t42? Both are 14" monitors. What parts should I be aware of? I'm assuming that I would take the panel and the cable.

Does the cable plug directly into the motherboard?

How will this impact video performance? The t42 only has a 32mb video card.

I'm assuming that for regular web surfing will be fine.

Youtube should be ok, but what about fullscreen viewing?

It will work just fine.

I'd swap the entire lid if I were you.

I've done panel swaps before with my t23. Is there something that I should be afraid about with t4x series?

No.

However, a lid from a SXGA+ T41 is likely to have a BT antenna, whereas an XGA from a T42 may or may not. Check that before moving on.

T4x 14 inch lids are much more complex inside than T23. You will feel like an octopus. I would go with George's recommendation. Just peel the label and swap them.

my t42 doesn't have bluetooth so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks

My point was that you could install BT card in your renewed T42 if you swapped the lids in a matter of seconds, and these are very inexpensive nowadays...
