Warranty Upgrade Question!

#1 Post by dmcgibbo » Sun Feb 27, 2005 12:47 am

I have a T42p 2378 and my warranty is up 3/14/05. I wanted to upgrade and was thinking either 2 year or 3 year depot which runs from 84-130 bucks.

1) what is the difference b/w business warranty upgrade and home warranty upgrade? the business warranty is cheaper!? are there any differences?

2) should i opt for the 2 or 3 year upgrade? can i get a discount through IBM's employee purchase plan (i didn't see where the prices were any cheaper i don't think) or get a better price from another site or by calling IBM instead?

thanks!

don't dither, buy the upgrade..
if you plan to keep the thinkpad for two more years, get the 2 year upgrade..

i don't (without reading the specs) know the difference between business and home upgrades..

as for the price, whatever it is, its a bargian..

there is no difference between the business and home options....technically the business option is only for business use, but I have never heard of IBM disputing a warranty claim based on business vs personal usage...

the price doesn't vary much at the various sites, but as Bill says, it IS a bargain..... even if you won't keep it for 5 years, IMHO this is the best lenght to buy, and it is the longest that IBM will sell you. Remaining warranty transfers with the system, and raises the desirability and resale value significantly...

great, looks like i'm going to buy the 3yr depot repair one for business since it is cheaper and i'm not the type to break my laptop or have issues with it unless the components actually fail (it's weird that business is cheaper than home use though)

i'm going to call and order it instead of using ibm.com b/c they don't list the T42p 2378 even though i'm sure all the warranties are the same. thanks for your help everyone! i love my stinkpad and wish i didn't have to use my crappy dell work gave me for business use.
