2379DJU vs. 23737FU

#1 Post by jjordache » Thu Jun 10, 2004 11:56 am

Greetings fellow ThinkPad fans!

I recently decided to purchase a new T41 via IBM’s Educational Program and I need a little bit of help deciding between the two models in the title.

The only two differences (from the published IBM specs anyway) are that 2379DJU has only 256MB RAM
instead of 23737FU’s 512, BUT the 2379DJU model has the Radeon 9000 videocard compared with the Radeon 7500 on the other model. As a consequence of the newer videocard, 2379DJU also has the SXGA+ (1400x1050) display.
Otherwise, the two models are exactly the same.

Here are the links:
2379DJU: http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... logId=-840

23737FU:
http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... logId=-840

With educational discount both have almost the same price, close to 1,750.
Normally I wouldn’t think much about it and I would bet my money on the better Radeon video card and crispier display (I heard 1400x1050 on a 14.1’’ is amazing) and throw more ram into 2379DJU.

But here is my problem: 2379DJU cost 1,939 without discount and 23737FU is 2,249!

Does anyone know where this difference of $310 comes? Surely is not the extra 256 MB of RAM, not to mention the better video card and display on the cheaper model….
Is anyone aware of any hidden reasons (performance wise, I mean…) for this big difference in the original price?

Thanks a lot!

The 2379DJU is an Express model which means it's already discounted. There are several other threads on this forum discussing Express vs. non-Express.

DJU is an Express model... just means that IBM discounts it more to retail customers....you are buyinhg the right one...... graphics cards are not upgradeable, SVGA is a must, and memory is cheap.... GO FOR IT!
