T4X parts interchangeable?

Will the keyboard from a T40 fit a T43? How about the battery, ram?

Keyboard and battery, yes (I think, not sure though). RAM, no (I'm sure).

T4x/R5x keyboards are interchangeable only between models with similar screen size (14" with 14", 15" with 15", but not 15" with 14").

All the batteries for T4x/R5x will fit all machines.

RAM is interchangeable between T40/T41/T42/R50/R51 (DDR), but the T43/R52 use different DDR2 RAM. Not compatible.

Thanks. I ask because I have a T40 that will boot and run for a couple of minutes then freeze up solid..(screen goes blank at times too). I'm no expert by any means but it sounds like the gpu may have come unsoldered from the board?? I dunno I get that from reading the stickys above.. Anyway, I'm torn as to either buy a new T40 mainboard or fix up a T43 with the T40 parts.

Is the T43 considered more reliable? I really enjoy the "T" series so either way is fine with me.

The GPU detachment issue, while present on the T43, is far less frequent than on older T4x machines (due to changes in soldering process), so in that sense you can say the T43s are more reliable.

What about the screen? Of course if they are both 14" and so on.

Will the T40 14" screen fit the t43 14" ?

Yes, with one exception:

If the T40 screen is SXGA+ and T43 has Intel graphics (model number starting in 187x), it will not work.

All other combinations will.

Many of the people you see here with large post counts have repair facilities. When you work on hundreds of laptops a week, you get to learn a thing or two.

Some of the guys here worked for IBM at some point.

Others of us have been up to our eyeballs in different Thinkpad hardware.

What's great is the open sharing of knowledge here.
