Forgot the harddisk password

My brother has a T40.
It has been unused for some time because of black screen.

Now he wants to get some data out from the disc but can't remember bios and HD password.

We tried to move it to my T42 but off course id did'nt help.

I think I have the MASTER password for bios and disc.
But when the disc is in my T42 the master password is not working on the disc.

I was sure the master password was the right one, but maybe it was only on the T40 bios I have set it..

But...anyway... is there something to do, so that he can get his data out of the 30 GB Fujitsu disc?

First of all, this belongs in the t4x section, not the t4x0 section (maybe a mod will move?) Secondly, you should be able to use an external monitor to try to get the t40 to boot with the hard drive in. I don't believe that it will make a difference though. If the screen doesn't come up on the monitor after a few seconds, try pressing Fn-F7 to switch to an external monitor.

yes.. the problem is the password and not the screen as I see it.
The black screen is another problem or the next problem if you want

The disk should work in another thinkpad, if I could remember the password...
