ibm t43 hinge problem?
ibm t43 hinge problem?
Okay ever since I got this laptop (I got it used for $150) It has had this hinge problem (nothing major) When I close the lid the computer will not go to sleep and will not latch completely unless I force it or if I push the hinge down, I will post some pictures and would anyone have an Idea on how to fix this? I just want my computer to go to sleep when I close the lid : / (this "defect" does not affect the performance of my computer whatsoever, besides the sleeping part)

Cut down on picture size as per forum rules.
Then remove the keyboard and upper KB surround.
Check that all the hinge screws are there, and if perhaps the (usually left) hinge is broken.
Also check the 2 screws on each side on the back, where the hinges are.

Ahh sorry about the picture, Well I am planning on buying a new keyboard for this machine very soon, now I need to how to fix the hinge, since it is the left one, and I'm just curious is this common in other t4x series?
Re: ibm t43 hinge problem?
The pictures are not obvious (to me). Are you saying you now know the hinge is broken? It looks that way, and I think you are saying it is broken. If you have not replaced a hinge in a T model before, you might be best to replace the entire lid.
I removed the left hinge from a broken lid, and broke it further getting the hinge out. I put that hinge in my good lid and was fortunate that it all worked, except I knocked the suspend switch off the ribbon cable while working on it. So it is just not simple to replace a hinge. ... JDH

I'm sorry i wasn't clear, I don't know if the Hinge is broken or loose, I know every time I open the lid and the close it, the left part of the lcd sticks up and you can see a piece of metal (I believe you can see it in the 3rd pic) and the phone refuses to go to sleep when I close the lid, so possibly it could be loose?
