t42 with external monitor - wrong resolution
t42 with external monitor - wrong resolution
Hello!
I have a T42 with ATI Radeon 7500 card (1024x768 native), and I bought an LG w2240 LCD monitor (1900x1080 native).
What I would like to have is the external display run on 1900x1080 resolution and be the primary and only display as soon as I plug it in. I've already tried the presentation director (v2.57) and had troubles getting it to recognize the correct resolution (but I managed to regedit the hex values), but when the computer puts monitor in sleep mode (or standby), after the wakeup, the external display drives in 1024x768 leaving the large portion of the monitor unused.
Is there a solution for me? I just want to have it simple, but the system keeps forgetting the external monitor setting.

There is a setting that you can configure in the BIOS that specifies which video will output the signal.
Try that.

Re: t42 with external monitor - wrong resolution
Hi guys!
I have no docking port, hence no DVI out.
ARD, I looked into BIOS few days ago but didn't find anything in that direction. My System Update App doesen't tell me there is a new BIOS so I guess I already have the newest one. Which BIOS menu should contain that setting? The laptop is buisy now but I will soon relook into that.
Another question - I also have a T43 with 915GM integrated graphics, 1.5GB RAM. I couldn't get that laptop to display 1900x1080 on the external monitor. Does 915GM support that resolution at all?
thanx for trying to help me out,
Am
P.S. do I need presentation director at all?

Re: t42 with external monitor - wrong resolution
this is very likely a problem with the graphic card driver. Check for new drivers at the ibm site, or google for omega drivers, just be carefull there, you need an oder version, the last one does not support the 7xxx series any longer.

Re: t42 with external monitor - wrong resolution
Noticed one of your T4x's has integrated graphics (lucky you!) of course below doesn't apply to it:
---
Just in case you didn't know, the docks & port replicators for the T4x models are very cheap on ebay, used or new.
You could get a port replicator, or even a small dock with key, usb hub, and special power supply, for under $20 shipped. With a little effort, the port replicator can be had cheaper than that, close to $10, and use your adapter if you can't score an extra one.
With analog, I've been disappointed with second ghost images, even though I thought analog quality was supposed to be close to digital about 10 ys ago. Maybe my setup?
Also, with digital, at least in Linux, it can be more easy to get instant hi res, without messing with drivers.
Docks do add weight and bulk, and still cost some money, go right ahead please if you want analog!

Integrated GPU doesn't support DVI. You need the ATI version to get DVI.ammar wrote:...Another question - I also have a T43 with 915GM integrated graphics, 1.5GB RAM. I couldn't get that laptop to display 1900x1080 on the external monitor. Does 915GM support that resolution at all?...
