T40p LCD problem

Hello !

Yesterday my T40p turned on with some screen problems. I could see the desktop but the screen was distorted with some artifacts. Today when I turned it on again the problem has grown. Now I cant see any desktop or other text info. The only thing that apears on LCD is black / blue background with some moving colourful particles. The background and some stripes change when machine changes states - starts, restarts, turns off, etc. Is this an inverter or maybe GPU chip failure? Still havent checked with an external display.

I'm sorry to say that your problem sounds like a textbook case of GPU failure.

Given your location, Nick (poshgeordie) is your best bet.

I guess you right. Just attached to external LCD and the problem persists. On the other hand pushing gently the gpu chip doesnt give any results (I've disassembled the rig). Also what is werid is the situaton when I change the VGA source signal form external display to the built-in LCD - the machine gets restart (as far I can say that without any image )
