T41 Clone Hard Drive

#1 Post by bilz2765 » Thu Apr 15, 2010 7:29 am

Many hits, but I see no answer to my problem.
Pros and cons of HPA, but I would like to keep it if at all possible.
Tried three versions of Acronis, v7, v9, v10, even their Migrate easy & Clonezilla.
Tried Acronis support. No luck there either.
Not sure if the HPA can be copied.
I even downloaded the HPA code from IBM with no luck.

Each instance of replacing my 40G drive with either the 120G, or the 250G, and I get the same HPA error, NT loader error, and C-A-D message. All allow the OS to work.

I even tried using an old PC and the IDA 3.5 to 2.5 converter gender bender with the same results.

I saw a Linux fix for the HPA, but for smaller drives. Thought Clonezilla being Linux based would work.

Maybe the T41 OS & HPA can't be duplicated?

The 40G is made by Fujitsu, and they are no longer in business. I remember the day when drives had software to do exactly what I want.

Frustrated.

Lots of info about HPA here: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/HPA

Don't know why you want to keep that, it's a very basic version of Windows, and needs tons of updates if you ever install it.
Better to make a set of recovery CDs, then wipe the HPA and add the free space to your main partition.

You might have better luck with one of the versions of ddrescue, from what I've read.

Maybe best to remove the drive again, and run gnu ddrescue from a non-thinkpad.

Here's a guide, don't know if it's a good one: http://www.ehow.com/how_4924091_clone-h ... linux.html

I've never tried this, just read about it in the past.
Moved to Chrome OS, so... SK-8855 USB Keyboard

No, I did not see your post. I found several like yours, but all had issues. I will try it to see.
