UJ-842 only writing DVD+R at 2.4x?

#1 Post by Tim M » Sun Apr 18, 2010 6:55 pm

I noticed that after burning some DVD+R DL discs at 2.4x (the max supported by this drive), it now is writing all DVD+R discs at that speed using Nero 6.6.1.15. Single-layer discs were being written at the correct 8x before.

Is this a hardware or software fault and how do I fix it?

I'd suggest trying the NERO Forum: http://forum.my.nero.com/index.php?showforum=26

Did you try other brand CDs/DVDs?

Hi,

Have you run the Nero speed test with a single layer DVD in the drive? That usually does the trick.

I tried using the "CD-DVD Speed" utility on some single-layer discs. The DVD+R I used will only burn at 2.4X (two different brands, no-name and Memorex, the latter of which is marked 16x). However, a DVD-RW will test and write at 4.0x (which is what the drive should do for that media).

Bad media or did Nero get screwed up somehow after my previous burning sessions at 2.4X for double-layer discs?

Hi,

Tough one.. I stopped using Nero and started using Ashampoo burning studio 8, 2009 and 2010. The latter two are free. Since I switched I have had no problems with burning disks.

I would still check the Nero forums and see if they might have a answer for you as was suggested earlier.

I searched the Nero forum and didn't find anything exactly like my problem.

At this point, I think it's the media. I installed ImgBurn, which also states the max supported write speed for my DVD+R discs as 2.4x (confirmed by a test-burn). The disc ID, MBIPG101-R05-01, correlates to Moser Baer, a mediocre manufacturer.

I can't see how the drive could fail such that it writes properly but at a lower than rated speed. I also feel that the lower supported write speed being reported by two different programs tends to rule out software.
