T43 Downside?

I just passed on my T-23 & am looking for similar hardy light laptop. I've been researching the T-60 and the T-43. I'd like to repeat the great experience I had with the T-23, which I found to be a real workhouse. My daughter loves it for Internet & Business type use.

I've sort of settled on the T-43. Is there a flaw or downside I need to be aware of such as a major part that comes loose? The T-23 is so well designed & made I considered replacing the keyboard with a lightly used one and the hard drive with a bigger one minor work.

I do not want to chance looking at a motherboard replacement or major re-soldering job.

As much as I love T43/p units (see signature), T60 is generally a safer bet.

No loosening of the Southbridge.

No "2010 error".

Faster Core Duo CPUs and SATA drives.

My T43 is 4 years old and all that has been replaced is the HDD after 2 years 9 months (so under warranty).

I have the 15" 1871 model with Intel graphics. It seems as solid as a rock. That said it could blow up tomorrow. Who knows?

The T23 is an excellent laptop...but a little slow for today's software. The T43 series is very nice and you can find some killer deals. But the T60 is a great unit...see if you can find the 15" T60p with the 1600 resolution screen. It is a killer machine.

My niece is using my old T23 and it is still running. My grandson has my old T43p 15" and he loves it. I have not parted with my T60p because of the high screen quality.

Don't put any more $$ into the T23 (IMHO). If you install Windows 7 onto a T60 you will be very pleased with it's performance.

I have both the T42p, T43p and T60p. The downside (as well as upside) on the T43/T43p is with DDR2 memory. The faster bus speed made the fan management much more abrupt. It just turns on and off very quickly. But it is cheaper to add memory and more of it as compared to the DDR based T42p.

The thermal management in the T60/T60p seems to be better, fan not cutting on and off quite as much as the T43/T43p.
