Defragmentation

#1 Post by ranjit » Tue Mar 01, 2005 7:28 am

Hi All,

I have had my T42 for almost two months. This morning I decided that it was time to defrag my HD, ad so I did. Now, I have two lines in my report as some files did not defreg properly. Here is the report:

Fragments File Size File Name
7 256KB \RRU\Backups\SAM
78 5MB \RRU\backups\system

What are these files and why don't they defrag? Could it be that these files are the remnants of the Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore software that came with the machine which I uninstalled and replaced with Rescue and Recovery v2.02.0178?

Also, in Start-->My Computer-->IBM_PreLoad (C:), I see a folder named RRUbackups. When I double click on it, it says the it is inaccessible and acess is denied!

The question is, how can I clear the files in the defrag report and the folder in C:?

Cheeers and best regards,
Ranjit

an offline defragmenter like PerfectDisk will take care of that

but

since those files are not typically accessed during a normal day there will be no benefit during a normal day from defragmenting those two directories or files

regarding the RRUbackups folder the best advice I can give you is leave it alone.

you may need to use Rescue and Recovery someday!
