The original post went like this:
T43 2687-D4U, 15" Flexview with the ATI video
I am in China for a semester and a month ago the screen went very dark, like the backlight (?) was gone. Brought it to Lenovo and, after two weeks, they returned it with a new LCD and LCD cable. Machine works fine for two weeks then...
Incident #1- April 15-TP was in suspend, I plugged something (MagicJack) in the USB and when i tried to wake up the machine, the screen was very dark. Strange thing is that the screen was not the one you get to "log in as user" when we end suspend, but the Last scree in use.
Incident #2 April 19- Again, awake from suspend hit arrow key as it was getting up and same scenario as #1
Incident #3 April 23-Screen was off, but computer was NOT suspended, hit spacebar to get screen on, screen came on briefly and then went dark
Incident #4 In suspend, put thumb drive into USB port, went to end suspend and again, very dark screen.
In all cases to "fix" things I would go back into suspend and then wake it up and things were fine. I am back in the US in two weeks and will wait to return to send it back to Lenovo (I still have 7 months on warranty) but want some heads up as to what might be going on here.
UPDATE:
Now things have evolved; any thumb drive in either USB port has problems being recognized in Win Explorer, that is it is NOT recognized. When I insert it, its light goes on, I am told that it is being installed, yet it is not found.
Any of five give the same result; an external mouse and Magic Jack work without problems in the ports. Going through troubleshooting (the thumb drives appear in Device Manager and are said to be working properly) has no affect. When I “remove” the thumb drives, they are released without problem. The drives work fine on other computers.
Uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling has no impact; any last thoughts? If I have to send it back to Lenovo, which cannot happen for another week, it is no tragedy, but an inconvenience.

I did read through the sticky and many other threads, never saw a scenario such as I am being possessed by.

Sounds like a failing Southbridge chip to me. Send it in so they can swap the motherboard while you're here.
Good luck.
Good luck.
