Did I get a bad replacement T43 screen (new)?

#1 Post by usadan » Sat May 01, 2010 12:48 am

The backlight on my old screen failed (pink at times, intermittent, then dead). I tried replacing the backlight but it was too intricate for me so I just ordered a new replacement screen for $150.

The new screen's backlight functions beautifully but I don't get any image at all on the screen. I plugged back in the old screen and can still see the images but very faint and dark which is understandable because its backlight is out. I know at least that the PC is generating the images properly.

All I can think of is that I got a bum new screen. I'm very sure I'm connecting it properly--there's not much to it, and I've replaced them before with no troubles at all, and the old screen still displays an image when I connect that one.

Any thoughts or advice?

What was the old screen (part #, mfg. part #, etc.) and what is the new one?
Where did you buy it?
If this was one of those so-called 'compatible' screens on eBay, you probably got the wrong one.

What's the 7-character model number of your T43?

My pc is a 1875-DLU. Thanks to your comments, and googling the part numbers, I figured out what happened. 247laptoplcd.com shipped me an SXGA+ (high res) screen instead of an XGA screen. They billed me for the XGA screen though (which is more expensive than the SXGA+ version). Oddly enough while their website clearly shows the different screen resolutions, the shipped paperwork just says "IBM THINKPAD T43 LAPTOP LCD PANEL" and doesn't even indicate the resolution. I'll take it up with them on Monday.

If they ship you the correct cable...you will have a nice screen.

No. 1875-DLU won't drive a 14" SXGA+ LCD. None of the Intel-based T43s will.

I contemplated pursuing the highrez cable. Interesting to know it won't work anyway. Well, my eyes are old and lazy anyway so I like the XGA pixel size on the 14" 4:3 very much.
