which battery for the t42?

#1 Post by jmagbita » Tue Mar 01, 2005 9:51 pm

i have posted another message on this board about my recent order of the t42 2373 m3u.. first off, thanks much for all the posts that helped me to decide to get this model! greatly appreciated! :D

now, for a question about the battery.. i think the regular battery it comes with lasts for only about 4 and half hours or so.. any recommendations for a battery purchase also? i can add it to my order that i place yesterday since my notebook has yet to ship..

i don't really understand much about the battery options.. from what i can gather, i guess there are some that completely replace the one that is in there (the stock one) and some that go into the bay where the cdrw/dvd would otherwise go.. and then i guess there are some that stick out of the back about an inch or so.. am i right about this? no idea! which battery would be the best option (least troublesome i.e. having to swap the stock w/ the replacement whenever battery drains)

i've read some posts that say they have combined the stock with others? how can this be done?

thanks again! ohh, btw, what's the best deal also considering cost and how many hours the battery lasts.. and also, what is power management? like snoozing the computer? please clarify! thanks!!! :D

the stock one is 6 cell..lasting close to 4 hours ( the indication may not correct) because when my battery is fully charge, after i take out the ac adapter, the battery monitor jumping from 3h40 to 4h to 3h20...etc...only after using it, you can see what is the real length.

That's why i'm not rushing to buy the 9 cell battery, that one will have like 5-6h..i'm not sure...you will have to take out the stock one and put this one in, it's 1" thicker than the stock one so it will stick out at the back.

The other option is slim bay battery...this is not a good alternative i heard...

So if you need long hour, get another 9 cell or set your power manager to maximize battery usage.

Remember that batteries start degrading from the moment they roll out of the factory. So don't buy it if you are just going to alternate between the two batteries or if you won't use it that often.

IMO the best choice is to buy the 9-cell from outside sources. IBM charges too much, unless you are getting a promotional deal.
