iCheck out www.lacie.com and take a peek at their SLIM DVDRW usb drive designed by FA Porche. They are French(Lacie that is!) and their product is great! Slim, light, USB2 Powered and relaively cheap $275 Canadian.

I think the best CD/DVD writers are Plextor 716A and NEC 3520A. You should get one of these and then get a USB 2 enclosure for it.

They are good DVD burners, but you can't drop them in an external enclosure that is powered by USB. The thread originator wanted a DVD burner that is powered by USB alone.

I managed to get the specifications of some slim DVD burner.
They are 'eating' 4-5.2w on the 5V rail.
it's almost enough the 2x500mA that the 2 USB port can give.
I thought I can make a circuit with an accumulator, which can give the more juice it needs.
USB rack and battery is more than enough to the make an external USB2.0 slim DVD burner.
Freecom FS-50 has the battery in the drive.
This burner has no need external power too..

The URL posted originally above shows that the drive has a PS2 port power tap, more than enough power available there to drive this burner.aamsel wrote:You may need a few hamsters running on wheels in cages alongside!!![]()
