Help with my T42p

#1 Post by thsu01 » Wed Mar 02, 2005 10:51 am

I received my 2373KYU in September 2004. But the hard drive crashed two weeks ago. While the hard drive has been sent out for data recdovery (cost a little bit less than $2,000), IBM sent me a replacemnet which is the one I am using. It went OK the first few days when I am trying to install programs. Just a couple of days ago, I couldn't turn off the computer anymore. The machine would say it encountered problems. The screen that contains the message would not stay long enough for me to look at it before the macine reboot itself. What I can get out of the mess was some error messages.

C:\DOCUME~1\MYNAME~1\LOCAL~1\Temp\WER82ba.dir00\mini030105.01.dmp

C:\DOCUME~1\MYNAME~1\LOCAL~1\Temp\WER2ba.dir00\sysdata.xml

Also, message indicated that "Direct Access" is not working.

Any suggestion for me to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

not a lot to go on, but since since your new HD obviously had a fresh preload on it, I' guessing a HW problem. Double check that your HD is seated properly/firmly.

I use the 4 CD set IBM sent me last December to load the operation system in the macine by myself.

I am running PC-Doctor and already found that the CDRW/DVD failed the test.

The IBM guy said that modem dialtone failure is normal.

By turning service Pack 2 Firewall while running Norton antivirus allowed me to turn off the computer now.

Still, the machine failed all the DVD/CDRW tests.

Still problem with the Direct Access components.

not normal to have to do that to turn off computer... does the DVD drive work normally otherwise?...failing the modem tests is normal IF you didn't plug in a phone line during testing...If possible, get us the actual Direct Access error Message when it happens...

Still not working untill I completely remove Service Pack 2.

Everything is back to normal now.

Thank you so much for your suggestion.
