I got the dreaded long beep then 2 shorts and the machine boots but no video.
I was minutes away from sending the T41 to GPU Medics until I Googled them and stumbled on you guys!
Superiorreball looks even scarier.
Any recommendations on who I should sent the notebook to and what it might cost? (I'm near Silicon Valley)
Then I need to decide if it's just easier to buy a new Thinkpad and sell this one for parts.

Re: Need recommendations for GPU repair
I'd forget the repair. Sell for parts or replace the MB. If it's in good condition you could buy a barebones T4x one on ebay with a cracked screen or something and rebuild using your best parts. Or you can buy a stripped or cracked screen R51 with intel graphics and swap it in. Not terribly hard to change the MB.
Or just get a used motherboard from a T4x or R51.. I pick them up for $40-$70 with patience. But you can also get a stripped laptop for under $100 with spare parts.
Personally I don't know if I'd bother though for a T41. A T42p or T43p, yes.

Re: Need recommendations for GPU repair
SuperiorReball is the former (or perhaps eBay) name of GPUmedics.
I had a very positive experience with GPUmedics ($45- incl. return shipping).
They're about the only (known) show in town (read USA).
There's an excellent outfit in the UK (see their ad at the top of this page), but (blame UK Royal Mail, not them) shipping makes them almost prohibitive.

Re: Need recommendations for GPU repair
Sounds like Superior Reball has gotten their act together. But if you just want to swap, here's a replacement MB from a good seller. Probably sell for <$50 shipped:
You get the Intel integrated graphics advantage by swapping in an R51 MB. Plus a bonus RAM in this case.
