T43 Will not turn on with ac adapter only

#1 Post by edmoy79 » Sun May 23, 2010 3:18 am

Hello. I am new here and I need help with my T43 2686 m7u. The laptop runs fine but will not charge the battery. I will not turn on with just the AC adapter plugged in. I have changed the ac adapter, battery, and dc jack. nothing has worked. I dont really want to replace the laptop since it still works. I have been looking at motherboard replacements and it is around $200 via ebay. Anyone had the same problem? What did you do to fix it?

Thanks of all the help.

You can check the fuses on the systemboard with a multimeter as a starting point.

Thanks Harryc. I have a multimeter. Do I want to check for voltage with the ac adapter plugged in? When I do find out that it is one of the fuses, where would I be able to order a replacement? Thanks for the help.

Check the fuses with ALL power removed from the system; battery and AC adapter disconnected. Then put the multimeter in the lowest OHMS range and place the leads across the ends of the fuse. A good fuse should read very close to 0.0 ohms.

Replacement fuses can usually be ordered from places like Mouser.com and Digikey.com. A secondary source would be from an identical motherboard but that's typically a more expensive route to go.

Referring to the document, on one of the pages there's a chart which gives the part numbers of most of the fuses and retail part numbers too. However it's a bit out of date (another job to do - to update it!) so if you find which fuse has blown, PM me and I'll give you the up to date retail source and part number.

You might have a broken t43 DC Jack Power Connector. It's this little yellow piece which you plug your AC adapter into. The other end connects to your motherboard. It allows you to power the laptop and also charge to your battery.

The bad news is you'll have the take apart your whole laptop to replace it. The good news is if this is the problem the part only costs about $5.
