T42p & T43p compatibility

#1 Post by lukee » Tue May 25, 2010 5:22 am

Hi,
I have few questions related to compatibility between T42p (15" UXGA) and T43p (14" SXGA+) models:

1. If I buy 15" T42p housing with LCD, may I use 14" T43p mobo with ATI V3200 graphics in 15" T42p's housing and can ATI V3200 drive UXGA IPS LCD?

2. If 15" T42p doesn't have palmrest with FP reader, will the system provide some error message (i.e. FP reader missing...)?

This "upgrade" is in my mind, because I want my T43p equipped with IPS panel.

Thank you!

The only difference between a 14" Planar and a 15" Planar is an extension card to let your optical drive work. Also, the metallized plastic part that extends to the right side of the base is different.

Other differences between T-43 and the other T-4x machines:

T-43 uses a different bus speed CPU.
T-43 uses PC-4300 DDR2 RAM (PC-5300 works).
T-43 uses a different PC-card cage. I don't think they are interchangeable.

That said, if you salvage an extender card and the back part from the T-42 Planar, the T-43p machine will work with the UXGA display. You will need the memory from the T-43 and the PC Card cage. You will also need a drive cover from a 15" base (they have longer fingers than the 14" cover).

Good luck.

I believe that YES, you can do this. The T43 motherboard fits in the T42p base, but you will have to swap in the cardbus cages along with the motherboard??...

I also believe that YES, a T43 motherboard that works with SXGA+ will also work with UXGA.

Don't have even a guess about the FP reader though.

Thanks guys for your replies. I am going to use my whole T43p mobo (with CPU, DDR2 RAM etc..) in 15inch T42 body. Do you know also, if there were 15inch T42's with basic XGA displays?
