R50e restart/freeze running on battery, usb related

hi

i've had a problem for a long time having my thinkpad R50e freezing or restarting when running on battery. No problem running in safe mode or anything other than xp.

After searching the internet i found people having the same kind og problem related to the trackpoint, so i connected a mouse to the usb port, and got rid of the problem. But as soon as i removed the mouse from the usb port the computer restarted or froze.

After some testing i decided this had to do with the powersupply to the usb and disabled the powersave feature on all usb hubs in the hardware tab. That seems to have killed the problem.

Has anybody expirienced anything like this, and do you think this is a hardware or software problem?
