Catalyst Control Center (CCC) for T42

#1 Post by Norway Pad » Tue Jun 01, 2010 3:55 pm

Is the Catalyst Control Center supposed to work on a T42?

When I installed the Lenovo utility drivers on my T42, I never downloaded any driver for the graphics, and I just went with the plug'n play drivers from Windows. Just for fun, I tried to get the ATI Catalyst Control Center installed today, but with no luck. The specified driver from the Lenovo website installed with no problem, as long as I uninstalled the exisiting driver first. But it didn't give me any CCC application/user interface like I have on the T43. Then I went to the ATI website and tried to find the CCC for the Radeon Mobility 7500, just to be directed back to my laptop suppliers site. (I was smart and tried to install CCC for the regular Radeon 7500, but that did of course not work. )

I have actually never seen a working T42 with the CCC, so the question is: Are they supposed to have the CCC, like on my T43? And if they are: Where can I download it? Is it included in the file from Lenovos site, so the reason for it not working is simply that my install didn't succeed?

This question also has some interest for when I am going to reinstall the T43. I definitely want the CCC to install there, since it's there today. I will do a clean install from a regular XP disc, so I need to install and the drivers manually. The graphics chip is different there, though. That is specified as a X300. So it might work different than on the T42.

Thank you!

For the T43, the Catalyst Control Center can be installed (I have a 2687D3U):
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-61503
(The CCC is referenced at the very bottom of the page noted above.)

For your T42, however, I could find no mention of availability of CCC for that model:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-41918

I noticed that too. CCC is mentioned on the T43 page but not on the T42 page. I have even run System Update, but no trace of anything there either.

Anyone here with a T42 that still runs the original install (or even a reinstall from IBM R&R discs) who can verify whether CCC is there or not? And maybe even someone who have installed the video driver file for the T43 who can verify that this *does* give you the CCC utility program/interface? There is obviously some difference between the two.

I believe it was installed originally. Look for C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\VIDEO\CPANEL\

There is a way to install it after the fact using the desktop drivers from ATI's site with Mobility Modder.

Ok. So it is probably standard on T42 as well, then.

The XP install on my T42 was done from a standard XP Pro disc, so I downloaded and installed all the drivers myself. So the path C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\VIDEO\CPANEL\ doesn't exist on my T42. When I extracted the files I downloaded from Lenovo's site, I extracted them into a folder I made, C:\DRIVERS. When I installed the ATI file, it installed itself under C:\Programfiles\ATI Technologies, with two subfolders "ATI Control Panel" and "UninstallAll". The name "Control Panel" makes me suspect that there is supposed to be a control panel. But apparently the install didn't work, or something else went wrong. No one of the executable files in the Control Panel folder works.

This is no big deal on the T42, so I am probably not going to investigate this further. I am more concerned whether this will work or not on the T43, since the CCC is there today, and I want to have it back after the reinstall. But time will tell. :-)
