Upgrading Wireless card in a T41

I'd like to upgrade my wireless card. I know this is probably a dumb question but, are there wireless cards that hold a connection or pick up on weaker signals better than others? When I visit my folks (who have no internet) I 'borrow' internet form their neighbors unsecured wireless router. It's barely enough to connect and often I loose the connection....but it's beats no internet at all!

I have a T41-2373 and am running Windows 7
