#1 Post by asmith219 » Fri Jun 11, 2010 8:04 pm

I want to up grade the RAM in a T41 and T42. I want to go up to the max 2gb. can I add any 2 gb 200 pin so-dimm? does the pc 2700 at 333mhz requirements have to be meet or can I add other pc types and speeds

I believe you can add any, faster or slower. PC2100 will work, but run slightly slower, faster speeds generally work, but will only run at the maximum speed of the memory bus, 333Mhz or PC2700 speeds. I say generally, because it is possible that some memory of any speed may not work, occasionally, some just don't.

You can only use up to (2x) 1GB modules. 2GB PC2700 do not exist AFAIK, and would not work either.

ok great, any speed will work, now what about DDR2, can I use a set of DDR2s. or do I have to stick to the DDR.

DDR2 won't physically fit, the notch is positioned in a new location to prevent inserting in machines that require DDR memory. The two types are not interchangeable.
