Sleeve for 14.1" Thinkpad

#1 Post by nodnarb01 » Sat Mar 05, 2005 1:49 am

I've been trying to find a simple sleeve for my Thinkpad (been looking over and over the variuos threads on cases and sleeves for Thinkpads on these forums) and I have narrowed it down to Marware, Vasola, and Case Logic.

I recently got a Case Logic sleeve that fits notebooks up to 15", but it is too big for my 14.1"; I can pinch about an inch or more of empty space when my notebook is in it.

My question is, does anyone have the Marware made for the 14" iBook? Or the Vasola Zipper Case B5L?

If so, what are your thoughts on the cases? I want only a sleeve (that my notebook fits snugly inside) to put into mybackpack.

I have a T30 with a 14" screen and I use an Ogio Brain Bucket sleeve which I got new on eBay for $7. The T30 fits perfect in it but I would imagine most laptops would be too big for it. I bought it on a whim but I really like it. It is padded, vented, and has a carry strap. I saw on the Ogio website that they just came out with the 2005 version of the Brain Bucket and it is a couple inches bigger all around. I think people must have been buying them for their 15" laptops and found them too small.

I have that 15" neoprene Caselogic as well, then I stuck that into one of these: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?s ... c=101&sp=1

Works fine. In my backpack and ready to go. Cheap too.

I had one for less than a day (before I sent it back for a refund).
I was not thrilled with the construction overall.
There were "flaps" of fabric at the zipper that I thought should have been trimmed off, but instead were left flapping.
Again, didn't like it much.

I just purchased an Elecom Sleeve from eBay. Works great has extra pockets on outside just like the Targus/IBM one for X40.

Fits 14.1" w/ 6 Cell Battery Perfectly but w/ 9 Cell you have to detach and place in pockets.

Here is the link:

T42 14.1"
2379-R1U

I'm actually looking for a sleeve for my TP also...
You can find my thread here.. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=8973
Many people are recommending the Shinza 15" (Medium) Zeroshock...
According to its specs, you'll have 1" of space lengthwise... but the other dimensions look good otherwise... This model does not have the wire frame so it should be able to accomodate a 9 cell battery if you have one
If you have a 6 cell, I contacted Shinza CS and they recommended the older ver of the 12" (w/o the wireframe). They told me that it should be able to stretch enough for the 14" giving it a snug fit...

Flaps? That might be the lining to prevent the laptop from getting scratched by the zipper... I'm actually looking for something like that...

Tom Bihn's Brain Cell is the best sleeve IMHO.

I bought a sleeve from flight 001 for my 2378-Fvu (14"). It fits the 14 inch thinkpad really well. I only have the regular capacity battery so am not sure how it would fit with the extended battery. However, the bag is stretchy so I presume it can fit more stuff. I use the back pocket to store the power block and other stuff. One thing I did not like was the shoulder strap that came with the sleeve. The shoulder pad is too thin so I changed it with one from another bag. Anyway, here is the link to the website (large size, not the wide size)
http://www.flight001.com/category.htm?v ... 514&step=0

and I also took some pictures of the sleeve with my thinkpad.

I just got my Waterfield sleeve last week after returning a Marware one which looked "cheap."
The Waterfield sleeve at:
http://www.sfbags.com/products/sleeveca ... ecases.htm
I got in Size 11 horizontal, with the flap, shoulder strap and piggyback were just over $100 delivered in two days.
This is a lot of money for a sleeve, but I have never seen better quality overall. Neoprene inside, ballistic nylon outside, made in San Francisco (for what that is worth). The nice thing is the piggyback. Plenty of room in it for power-brick and other stuff, and you have the option of taking it with you or not. You can take it in the car, for example, and decide to leave the piggyback in the car. Great product, IMHO. Nice people, VERY responsive. You get a handwritten Thank You note on your order receipt, (also, for what that is worth).
Highest possible quality sleeve.

I have a CaseLogic sleeve that fits my 14.1 T41 perfectly. I bought it at a Border's bookstore, strangely enough, in the music department. It's the very simple model--about $20, I think. I carry it in my bookbag, and sometimes slip them (computer + sleeve) a Radio Shack computer bag (the simple, cheap model, too--about $25) if I want extra protection plus a handle or strap. The combination works well for me.
