T43 with Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915 connection problem

I have a linkys router (WRT54G) and tried using the ibm acess connection tool to connect to it. But when I connect to my router, there is only a brief time (5 sec) where I can browse the web then it just doesnt work anymore.
But the ibm access connection still shows that I have a connection with a connection strength(100%). However the speed is reduced to 24Mps instead of 54Mps for 802.11g. The ibm access connection tool I am using is version 3.70 ( the latest).
