Intel PRO/1000 MT Troubles

#1 Post by andypenguin » Sat Mar 05, 2005 3:15 pm

I can't get this adapter to work properly with either the IBM drivers or the newer 9.2's off Intel's site. I can connect to the router at 100MBps full duplex just fine and browse websites, but whenever I try to transfer files (whether it be over WAN or LAN) the connection is very slow and drops off completely after a while.

I noticed in task manager that the connect speed of the adapter would be at 100MBps, then spike (along with the CPU utilization) to 1.0GBps and then back down to 100MBps again, all while the file transfer is going very slowly, or not at all.

I've tried it with two routers, a Netgear MR814v2 and a Belkin router -- same problem. Anyone got any ideas? The adapter passes all diagnostics and there's nothing wrong with the cable.

There is nothing endemic wrong with that NIC. I have it on my T41 and have moved 4Gb files at full speed without errors or cutting out. You might try getting the most recent IBM driver, exploding it into C:\Drivers\... and know where you explode it to. Then uninstall the NIC and restart. When Windows wants to install the NIC, point it to the drivers you just exploded. That should completely refresh the NIC, and see how that works. You could have a bad NIC. ... JD Hurst

Yet it manages to work fine with a Linksys BEFSR41 router...

I'm stumped.
Well, good to know its not a defective NIC.
