How to restore XP Pro on a retired corporate machine?

#1 Post by T22user » Sat Mar 05, 2005 3:16 pm

A friend's company recently retired his T23 when they upgraded all the laptops to T42's. They were allowed to keep their T23's if they wanted them as apersonal machine. He would like to configure this machine back to the original specs. I thought I could help him with the F11 function. He brought it over for us to try it out btu I have been unable to help him at all (I'm not a tech guy). Upon start up we hit F11 but the machine does nothing but continue to load up XP Pro. F12 and F1 both take us to some type of menus but we don't think they have anything to do with reimaging it. I have my Windows 2000 Restore disk for my T22 but he really wants XP Pro on this machine. The question is this. Since this is a former corporate machine, could the partition that held the restore function be missing? If that is the case, will this T23 accept the T22 recovery CD that I have or will I need a T23 specific disk? If neither of these will work, can anyone suggest how to get back to the original configuration?

I'd bet money on it.

Dunno. Sometimes they're backwards compatible, but forward compatible? It might work, but you'd have to do some tweaking. Someone else may know for sure.

Buy a copy of XP Pro, and then read the FAQ (see below). Pay particular attention to item #2 and, perhaps, item #10.
