t23 DVD/DL burner problems

Hey folks, got a nice one.

I have a NEC ND-6500A in my T23 thinkpad. Now the burner works, but sometimes it doesn't appear under My computer, or Nero 6.6.0.0

If I remove and reboot, it'll work again. I have burned several DVDs with no problems, it's just this stupid thing doesn't always appear. I have assembled the caddy corectly. Am I missing a driver/firmware? Also, I can see the drive under Device manager....but can't access even a burnt dvd. (Unless I can see it to start with....)

That's the NEC solution page, but it's in very bad english......

I'm running XP Pro.....with all the updates I can find....

I removed, and told the drive what I thought of it...and it's working fine again....I have no idea what the problem is.......

Toe, go to www.cdfreaks.com and search your drive on in the forum. You'll be amazed at the information about this drive. I have taken the tweaked firmware for my 6500A in my T30 and now it is Region Free as well as burning +R discs as DVD-ROM even with Dual Layer! This is a very exciting drive for my Thinkpad and much better than the panasonic that was in the drive bay to begin with!
