Problems with Windows 7 and the T43

#1 Post by dan1875 » Tue Jun 29, 2010 3:29 pm

Hello, I just "upgraded" my old T43 (2668-PDU) from XP Pro to Windows 7 Ultimate (I had a recurring BSD due to the ATI driver and after my rescue disks did not work - a blessing in disguise - I decided to try installing Win 7.) Thanks to this forum I found enough info to make the operation quite easy. The laptop works remarkably well, however I have some problems and I do not know if they are solvable.
1-I need to also run some XP applications in Windows XP mode (under Win 7 Virtual PC). I could not assess if the T43 has the hardware-assisted-virtualization (Intel VT) or not. Win 7 says it does not, but it may be there and not enabled in the BIOS. Does anyone know the answer and if yes, how to enable it? I know that there is a Microsoft software hotfix which would allow me to run Virtual PC without the Intel VT but I would prefer to avoid it, I read somewhere that they were problems with it.
2- I have the plug and play additional hard drive. It is not recognized by Win 7. Actually when I plugged it instead of the DVD, Win 7 recognized it as a hard drive, installed a driver and said it was ready to use. It is also present in the Device Manager under Disk Drives. However it does not show under "My Computer" and obviously I cannot have access to the data I stored there. I bought it from IBM at the same time I bought the T43, it is made by Fujitsu and is a 100GB HD. Any advice???
3- The Biometric device is installed but the application has disappeared. I suspect that it was an IBM app which is not part of the Windows Updates and which I could not find on the Lenovo site.

I would appreciate any information or advice.
Thanks. :)

1.) Intel VT hardware support started with Mobile Core 2 Duo and Core Solo CPU' s. That's way past the T43's day ...

Did you install Lenovo System Update? I never had any problem so far with the fingerprint.

Here's the direct link for System Update 4.0 for Windows 7:

Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a version of Fingerprint Software available yet for Windows 7. See:

I did not use that one. My version of the FP software was picked-up by the Lenovo System Update automatically, I'm not sure if it's Windows 7 specific, but it works so far. I'll check tonight which exactly version it is and post it here.

Cheers

IIRC, the T60 version of the Vista FPR software seems to work in W7, even in 'lower' models.
