company selling&shipping t42 to europe
Hello all,
I've decided to buy T42 2379DXU. I'd rather have 1GB RAM in 1 slot (instead of 512MB) & also 40GB HDD is enough for me (instead of 60GB), but 2379DXU model is really good priced (Think Express Programme). I tried to ask Bill but he's not able to help me on 2379 series. My problem is that I neither can buy directly from ibm.com cause i'm Europe based. i've tried also local ibm websites but prices here are terrible (+1000$ comparing to IBM US web prices). So only option seems to be to find some reseller that ships out of USA. could you recommend me any please.
Thanks
& Have a nice day

You can't find anything similar that *isn't* an Express model?

2379DXU *is* a value machine. But are you certain you want a 15" SXGA display and not a 14". Perhaps you might consider the 2378FVU as in the FAQ in my signature.

i can't sell any express models..
sorry, it's not me, its ibm's dumbass marketing strategy..
i can't get any significant discount and without a profit there is no reason to take risks and assume liabilities for nothing..
not to mention the time and captital invloved..
also, i suggest not getting any one year warranty thinkpads..
there is a reason for 3 year warranties..
i can usually come close to most express models with regular models..
i can perhaps get a 23733XU and come close to that price..
at lease gross price since whereever he got that 2379DXU it would have sales tax added and also shhipping..
assuming a 5% tax = $1899 + $95 = $1994 + SHIPPING..
THE 23733xu specs:
P M 735, 512MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 15 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon 9600, 24x24x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Intel 802.11b/g wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro
buyer would also be liable for his local VAT and sometimes customs as well..
FWIW, i get requests all the time: "whats the best deal you can get me on [here follows a list of 15 different thinkpad models]..
i need to make a specific request for each price.. list and my cost..
and my sales guys get upset quoting 15 different models, 5 to 10 times a week..
its not easy trying to make a profit in the computer business in 2005..

If you need a Thinkpad in Europe, try www.bluelink.nl. This is an authorized IBM dealer on the web, situated in the Netherlands. They have no trouble shipping to other European countries. I got two TPs from them, including the T42 I am using now, and they have always been quite friendly and to the point. Their whole list of machines is on the site, including options etc. I'm also sure the reps on the phone or e-mail will be able to communicate in English.
I can't believe that you would pay 1000 $ more for the same model in Europe as in the USA (unless they give them away for free in the USA
) I paid something like 1600 euro for my T42 (ex vat), which would be something like 1900 US$. Are you saying that a T42 (14") would cost less than 1000 $ in the US ? In that case I understand why so many people on this forum seem to buy new TPs like they were fresh shirts...

T42 (14"/250GB/1.5GB; NL; with minidock); R51 (15" flexview/40GB/1 GB). X31 (12"/320GB/1GB); T42 (14"/60GB/1GB; FR)

compare following links if you really need an evidence:
IBM USA - this one for T series says from $1,399.00
IBM Ireland - this one for the same T series says from 1.650,00 €
if you will add VAT which is in Ireland 21% and make conversion to $ you will get pretty big difference for the same computer in USA and in Ireland.
(1650eur * 1.21 = 1996eur (incl. VAT) converted it is 2619$) which is +$1220 comparing to $1399 (from IBM USA site)
I know shipping and other costs but it CAN'T MAKE 1220$

Prices in Europe are quite terrible. You can make it posted by DHL and you can hire a lawyer who buy it for you and it still cost less than in Europe.krajicek wrote:To: fschwep

I have no idea why, the only thing is that IBM must deliver their machines on canoes over the atlantic, piece by piece ...
Let's go'n'restart

and gasoline is $2 a gallon here and 1.50 pounds sterling a liter in the UK..
which equates to about $10 a gallon..
and does not get you any better gas mileage..
(ok, ok, my price guess's may not be exact, but you get the idea)
