T42 Ram canabalizing another T42 - why doesn't it work?

So why won't the 512 meg ram from my broken T42 work in my refirbished replacement T42?

What is the manufacturer and model of the RAM from both machines? Have you tried both slots in the refurbished machine?

I've got some 512 RAM from a no-name manufacturer which works in some T4x's and not in others.

it's basically rubbish RAM!

I have seen this once. Not in a Thinkpad, but same deal.

He, he. Rubbish RAM. We should rename it RUM (RUbbish Memory)

I got it to work. The two chips were very different but when i switched them I get one gig total memory.

All is good.
