When you say the C drive pops out on its own, I presume you mean the hard drive enclosure. My hard drive enclosure is secured by at least one screw. Maybe you have a screw loose, if you'll pardon the expression ... because I don't mean you are mad :lol: ... but hard drives shouldn't pop out.

Check it out and report back.

There are several reasons why the optical drive's tray will pop out on its own:

- bad latch that is supposed to secure the tray; in other words a mechanical problem inside the drive
- the eject button is out of alignment or broken; another mechanical defect which causes the switch behind the button to make electrical contact
- malware; a virus or practical joke program which randomly sends a signal to the system to eject the tray

If it's a mechanical issue, then you could try swapping in a different drive and see of the problem goes away. Or if you have access to another Ultrabay Slim laptop, move your drive there and see if the problem follows it. If a replacement drive does the same thing in your system, then I'd bet you have some rogue program running in the system.

Speaking of those screws;
Does anyone have a source for these? I need one for my ultrabay.

I have a T43p and I had exactly the same issue. In my case it was a faulty Hitachi drive. I replaced it with another Hitachi that I bought for like 10 bucks off a used computer store and life's been fair since then.

Hope this helps you.

Common problem with T43 Hitachi CD drives. I had 3 replaced under warranty before I got one that didn't pop out by itself.
