T42 exits standby with lid still closed, RANDOMLY

#1 Post by etherealtml » Mon Mar 07, 2005 2:19 pm

I recently noticed that my T42 seems to arbitrarily wake itself from standby mode. My thinkpad will be asleep for several hours- with the lid closed- when suddenly, for no apparent reason, I can see the suspend light turn off, and then the cpu fan and hdd start spinning. After running for about 15-30 seconds, my computer again resumes standby. Mind you, the entire time the lid was closed, and I wasn't touching the thinkpad at all or anything like that.

Would really like some help diagnosing this problem. Any ideas? TYIA

As weird as it is, I've experienced the same behavior, yesterday evening was my the latest. Brought the Thinkpad to my kitchen table, it sat there for a while too, it had been on standby for a couple of hours, and then out of the blue it came out of standby, I opened the lid, nothing, blank, a few seconds later the moon was lit and HDD stopped spinning.
Peculiar, I have disabled waking up on timer, so it won't hibernate itself after going to standby, but still sometimes this thing happens.
