Software to take advantage of the Active Protection Sensor?

#1 Post by jumpmonger23 » Tue Mar 08, 2005 9:14 pm

Now that apple has their version of active protection on their new powerbooks, check out some of the applications there are for it: http://www.kernelthread.com/software/ams/

Specifically look at the apps that keep windows "level" even when you tilt the machine.

I think a cool feature would be the one where you can tilt the laptop to scroll a webpage up/down/left/right, etc.

Anything available for the winxp platform?

Well, there's the Active Protection System realtime applet that shows your thinkpad's orientation in real time :P

I always wanted to make a "labyrinth" or marble-madness game that took advantage of the APS output. Probably unwise though.

Spin down the hard drive first and you ought to be fine :-). Are the values read from ACPI or BIOS calls? It's obviously a real time system just by using the IBM appelet and thinking of its design purpose. I can think of a few cool apps already.

It might jsut be me but I'd feel uneasy about tilting my thinkpad around and play with it. I'd rather just buy one of those marble boards :s
