Opinions on T43 upgrade to Win7?

#1 Post by dwallace » Thu Aug 12, 2010 5:51 pm

Ganglia,

I have an upgraded T43 (XP Pro/7200rpm drive/2GB memory). Curious to hear opinions or experience with Win7 -- debating whether to wring another year out of this machine or move on up. It gets a wee bit warm on a full day's work and processing is getting sluggish. HD still has 30Gig of headroom. Otherwise I have no complaints and enjoy the reliable Thinkpad build quality.

Only 48 hours until Tax Free weekend here in MA . . .

Thanks
David

The T43 runs perfectly with XP-Pro, and quite nice with W7.
A fresh reinstall of XP Pro will bring more than installing W7.
Maybe cleaning out the dustbunnies from the fan and/or apply fresh thermal paste to the CPU/fan might solve some of your heat problems.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I just upgraded a T43 to 7. Very pleased. It runs fast (hard to compare because my XP install was loaded down with all kinds of stuff). It runs cooler. Everything seems to work as it should. It was easy to upgrade.

I was also considering an upgrade to Windows 7. However, after recently installing Notebook Hardware Control (NHC) and running several utilities to clean up the system, I think I will stick with WinXP Pro SP3 for now.

If it ain't broke....

I'm running W7 Professional on my T43p and it has same performance as with Windows XP at least. However system is not so much hot! Essential is to have fast hard disk - if you hate "error 2010" then Hitachi 7k100 with IBM's firmware is a best choice. Otherwise you can select any ATA HDD, maximum capacities are 320 GB's with 5400rpms.

+1 here :thumbs-UP:

For everyday use like browsing in internet, emailing and office I see no issues at all with my T43p (see sig below). I even have the impression that Win7 is a tad faster, but I haven't run any benchmark comparisons. I can also watch 720p videos with no performance or heat issues.

My 0,02 cents...

I'm running my T43 2687-D8U with Win7 pro and I'm very pleased with the performance. The system is very stable and fast compared to WinXP. Only concern is that I cannot find one driver for my system (Intel(R) 82801FBM LPC Interface Controller-2641). However, everything works perfectly.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I have this with my T43, but not on my X60s. I cannot locate the driver. I have tried using the Intel chipset driver software oss911ww.exe from the Lenovo website, it runs but I don't think it actually installed anything, and in any case, I don't know if that would be a solution anyway.

I just answered my own question by searching the board, thanks to RBS!
